The Hong Kong branch of the Nautical Institute will be holding an afternoon seminar during China Maritime Week on March 1 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The topic of the seminar is ‘Challenges of Electronic Navigation’, and the event will address the most significant paradigm shift in navigation in recent times. An excellent line-up of speakers has already been confirmed.
• Hydrographers’ and Chart Distributors’ Perspective
Mr George Arts
President, Marine Press of Canada
Appointed as technical advisor to the International Council of Cruise Lines (ICCL), Mr Arts has also been nominated to attend International Hydrographic Offices (IHO) meetings on matters related to electronic chart production, distribution and updating. Marine Press operates the Digitrace remote updating and licence service, with 4,800 vessels subscribing.

Captain Sriram Rajagopal
Training & QHSE Superintendent, Anglo Eastern Group
An ECDIS trainer since 2007, Captain Rajagopal has presented papers at various international forums regarding ECDIS and electronic charts, including the 2009 International ECDIS conference (UKHO – IHO) and ECDIS faculty interaction in Baltimore in 2010.

Captain Bhupesh Gandhi
Director – Asia Pacific, MARIS
A Master Mariner, Captain Gandhi obtained his MBA degree from the University of Southern New Hampshire. Having served as vice-president – marketing for Asia Pacific with Transas Marine Pacific, he decided to join MARIS in August 2006. Heading their Asia Pacific expansion, he has responsibility for business strategy, organisational development and the sales and marketing of MARIS products and services throughout the region.

Mr Nigel D Cleave, Chief Executive Officer of Videotel Marine International
Videotel is the world’s largest multi-media producer and leading provider of high-quality maritime safety training software and materials. Mr Cleave has overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the business as well as guiding future strategic development of the company’s worldwide marine training services and activities.
