The design of searchlights, and more specifically the operator’s control for these lights, have changed very little in the past 50 years. The first real innovation came in 2007, when Tranberg introduced a new line of searchlights and operators control panels, where a robust network provided two-way communication between all units. This new system proved very simple to install, very easy to use, and rendered everything else old-fashioned.

The latest innovation from Tranberg, the system, is an add-on to previously installed searchlight systems. The Point & Light system allows the navigator to simply point on the object he or she find of interest, click a button on the device, and the requested searchlight will immediately adjust itself in this direction. The new Point & Light will naturally co-exist with the existing operators panels on the bridge consoles.

Tranberg is certain that the market response will be positive, as the Point & Light will be a simple plug-in for existing customers, but more importantly that it will simplify the tasks for the crew onboard, while increasing safety. A patent application for the Point & Light system has been submitted, but the main objective for Tranberg is to continuously provide the market with leading edge innovations.
