M/V “SCAN Stigandi”

M/V “SCAN Stigandi” was built as an Icelandic fishing trawler in 2002 and later purchased by SCAN Geophysical ASA (SCAN) and converted and refitted into a multi-purpose 3D and high-end 2D vessel with long-offset, dual source capabilities during 2007/08 at Irving Shipyard in Halifax, Canada.

“SCAN Stigandi” joined SCAN’s fleet of two other seismic vessels in July 2008, with a sale-leaseback agreement with ships management company, Neptune Seismic AS. SCAN owns all the seismic equipment on board the vessel – mainly manufactured by ION (MSX streamer/recording equipment), Bolt Technologies (APG seismic source system), Greenfield (air compressor system) and Odim (winch & handling systems).
The vessel is equipped with 4x 6000 meter solid (Gel-Filled) seismic streamers, dual 4000 cubic inch airgun sources and all the latest state-of-the art recording, onboard data processing and positioning equipment available in today’s market. The vessel is ideal for the high-end 2D to small and medium size 3D markets.
“SCAN Stigandi” departed the Canadian Shipyard in Halifax early July 2008 for the Caribbean region, where she successfully completed her first seismic contract, ahead of schedule, for a major National Oil Company comprising 4,000 Km of 2D during July and August.

“SCAN Stigandi” was the third vessel to join SCAN; the company is scheduled to deliver three new world-class, high capacity 3D seismic vessels during 2009. The three vessels are purpose-built and specifically designed for efficient 3D and 4D acquisition with up to 10 solid streamers towing capacity, totalling 80 km. The three new vessels will allow SCAN to take an even greater share of the expanding marine seismic market.
