Outstanding line-up for young professionals event

As part of a long list of exciting events scheduled for the upcoming China Maritime Week 2012, the Young Professionals in Shipping Network (YPSN) will be presenting its first seminar, with an outstanding line-up of speakers covering a diverse range of topics.

The YPSN event will features speakers with a vast array of experience in shipping, talking about issues affecting the future of the entire industry. It promises to be a thought-provoking afternoon, discussing issues relevant to all young professionals in the industry. For anyone who ever wonders where shipping is headed and has questions for the industry’s leaders, this is definitely not to be missed!

The event will take place on February 28 from 3.00pm to 5.30pm at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Room S427 (registration starts at 2.30pm). Participation is free for YPSN members. Attendees are also invited to attend a cocktail reception (6.30pm) to mark the opening of China Maritime 2012.

Speakers and Topics
Michael Grey – columnist and correspondent, former editor of Fairplay & Lloyd's List.
“Lessons from the Titanic - 100 years on”

We all know of the ‘Titanic’, the greatest passenger ship of her time, and the tragedy that occurred on her maiden voyage. Michael will be speaking on the lessons the industry can learn from the ‘Titanic’, which is topical following of the recent ‘Costa Concordia’ incident.

Arnauld Filancia, Wärtsilä.
“Shipping Scenario 2030”

Arnauld will be giving an insight into the future technology of shipping and the use of fuel cells, a topic that is definitely relevant in a growingly “green” climate.

Andrew Brooker, FP Marine Risks.
“Trading in troubled waters - War Risks and the K&R Market”

The importance of obtaining the correct type of war risk insurance cannot be underestimated. However, given the many types of war risk insurance on offer in the market, which is the most appropriate? Andrew will be speaking on the types of war risks insurance offered by the insurance market and whether they adequately address the risks faced by owners and operators now.

Sabrina Chao, Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings.
“Human Capital - Investing in Talent in the Maritime Industry”

Sabrina will be speaking on the importance of developing and retaining talent in the maritime industry and what ship-owners and other players in the industry can do to attract more young professionals to join and build their career in the industry.
