China Maritime Week will launch in Hong Kong from February 28th-March 2nd in 2012.

The event will feature a major international maritime exhibition plus a range of conferences covering vessel operations, the marine environment, ship financing, shipbuilding, ballast water treatment, vessel enclosed spaces and tugs and offshore vessels.
China Maritime Week is aimed at developing a broad range of forums and events and networking opportunities focused on Hong Kong’s role as a maritime gateway to China.
“This event has developed during the last 10 years with the China Maritime exhibition at its core and now we have a broad spectrum of Hong Kong, China and international maritime organizations contributing to China Maritime Week,” said Neil Baird, Chairman of China Maritime.
“Hong Kong’s global reputation as a shipping hub and its connections to China has positioned the city as one of the world’s leading maritime centres. China Maritime Week will provide an opportunity for the whole maritime community in Hong Kong and China to come together and welcome maritime professionals from around the world,” added Baird.
Many internationally renowned ship owners operate their ships from Hong Kong, which currently controls or manages about ten percent of the world’s total tonnage. Plus, many Chinese and Japanese ship owners have located their headquarters to Hong Kong.
The keynote social and networking event will be a charity dinner in aid of seafarers jointly organised by the Sailors Society of UK and the Hong Kong Shipowners Association.
Delegates will include representatives from shipping, workboat, banking, government, military and the ports sectors. There is, in the surrounding region, intense activity in ship-owning, ship-building, ship-repair, naval architecture, port operation, tugs, ferries, commercial fishing, naval, police, coast guard, tourism, work boats, pollution control.
Confirmed events during China Maritime week include, a Nautical Institute conference, a half-day seminar organised by the Hong Kong Young Shipping Professionals, an INTERFERRY regional conference, an ACI Conference on Tugs and Harbour Craft, Clean Shores, Clean Seas, Clean Ships maritime environment conference, a Sailors Society Charity Dinner at the Shangri-La Hotel, a Ballast Water Treatment Seminar and a Marine Money Conference.
