China Maritime 2012 will be held at the world-renowned Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre

China Maritime salutes the Philippines

It is a well-documented fact that the Philippines plays a huge role in the global maritime industry through the provision of vast numbers of seafarers, but the South-East Asian nation’s contribution amounts to far more than that.

As well as being the biggest crew supplier in the world, the Philippines is also the world leader in the field of education and training of highly skilled mariners. Another less-circulated fact is that the country is also the world’s fourth-biggest shipbuilder, largely through outsourced projects for companies from Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Australia.

It’s therefore appropriate, or indeed essential, that the country’s impact on global maritime affairs should feature prominently as part of China Maritime 2012, this week in Hong Kong. The Philippines Maritime League will be holding a promotion on Tuesday, February 28, from 1600-1800 in Room S423 of the Hong Kong Conference and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

The event’s main speaker will be Congressman Roger G Mercado, the chairman of the Philippine Congress Committee on Transportation. He will be supported by a distinguished panel of guests, comprising:

•Commodore Carlos L Agustin (ret) – Chairman and President of the Philippines

Maritime League; former chairman, Philippines Ports Authority

•Commodore Gilbert Rueras – Commander, Maritime Safety Services Command -

Philippine Coast Guard

• Brigadier General Triumfo Agustin (ret) – Chairman, PHIVIDEC Information Authority

• Mr Crispin Sapit – President, Metro Manila Shipyard Association

• Engineer Gaudencio Anacin – President, Oceanlink Institute; Director, Negros Navigation
