Aker Yards with new contract with DOF in Brazil

Aker Yards has signed a contract with DOF ASA for building of three Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessels (AHTS). All the vessels will be of Aker Yards' own design and equipped for operations in the Brazilian market. The three ships are scheduled for delivery at the end of 2010, mid 2011 and towards the end of 2011 respectively.

President of Aker Yards' business area Offshore & Specialized Vessels, Roy Reite says in a comment: "This contract with DOF confirms our role as the leading partner in advanced shipbuilding within offshore and specialized vessels world-wide."
Aker Yards Project in Ålesund has developed this new design, and the vessels will be built at Aker Yards in Brazil.
Aker Yards AH 12
The Aker Yards AH 12 is designed with an aim to focus on the future needs for safe operations and the stability requirements. The vessels will be outfitted with the latest equipment within safe AHTS operations, such as the largest AHTS winches, cargorail cranes with manipulators, and new systems for handling rig anchors at stern.
In order to obtain a flexible and optimized utilization of the machinery, the vessels will be provided with a hybrid propulsion system, combining a well proven conventional diesel engines, direct driven reduction gearboxes and CP propellers with a diesel electric system.
Each of the vessels will have accommodation for 60 persons.
Aker Yards AH 05
The third vessel is of Aker Yards AH 05 design, and is 74 meters in length with a beam of 17 meters. The vessel will have accommodation for 38 persons.
