M/S «FESCO SAKHALIN»
– icebreaker delivered from Aker Finnyards
Hull no. 504 from Aker Finnyards' Helsinki Shipyard was delivered to Far-Eastern Shipping Company PLC (FESCO) on 16 June following the naming ceremony on 31 May performed by Mrs. Valentina Ambrosova. M/S «Fesco Sakhalin» is described as a stand-by supply vessel with icebreaking capabilities.
The original contract was signed in September 2003, and the vessel will be operating in the harsh Okhotsk Sea environment in the Sakhalin area in the Far-East of Russia with difficult ice conditions. The vessel enters into a charter to Exxon Neftegas Ltd. who is the operator of the Sakhalin-1 consortium. The contract price was close to EUR 65 million.
Far-Eastern Shipping Company (FESCO) based in Vladivostok is the largest shipping company in Eastern Russia. Founded in 1880 and ultimately reorganized as a publicly held company in 1992, FESCO owns and operates a large fleet including containerships, reefer vessels, bulk, timber and other dry cargo carriers along with a number of icebreakers, passenger and harbour vessels.
The «Fesco Sakhalin» was the first icebreaker delivered from Finland to Russia for about twenty years. M/S «FESCO SAKHALIN» The vessel is based on the "double-acting" concept for icebreakers which has been developed by the Aker Arctic Technology Inc. The vessel encounters difficult ice conditions with her stern first utilizing the azimuthing electric propulsion. The vessel has the following Machinery The three main engines of 8L38B type are of Wärtsilä make, and so is the harbour genset, while the emergency genset is of CAT make. Allweiler, Iron, Grundfos and Leistritz have all supplied pumps, while separators are from Westfalia. Starting air compressors are from Sperre and screw compressors from Tamrotor. Heat Exchangers are of APV make, and Aeron Miljøteknikk has supplied the air condition system, and the fans are from Fläkt Woods. Aalborg Industries have delivered steam boilers. Unitor have supplied portable fire extinguishers and Tyco Marine the fire alarm system. Deck Tranberg has provided navigation lights and Norselight search lights. The paint system is from International Paint. The interior lighting systems onboard have supplies from Glamox, Aquasignal and Høvik Lys. Glamox has also provided lighting systems for the deck and engine room. The insulation work has been performed by Paroc, the wall lining is from SBA-Interior and ceiling linings from Lautex. Saajos Balti has supplied fire and internal doors. The galley equipment is delivered by Metos and the sewage treatment units by Evac, while Shippax supplied prefabricated WC/shower modules. Trioving has provided locking system, and the whistle is from Kockums Sonic. Bridge equipment The DP-system is from Kongsberg Maritime and the automation/alarm system from CAE Valmarine.
is designed with a special rescue deck and versatile fire-fighting equipment delivered by Kværner Oilfield Products. The vessel has high-grade oil destruction equipment onboard, including a work tender, 200 metre oil boom and receiving tanks for oily water.

ABB Oy has deliverd two 6,500 kW Azipod units, three main generators in addtion to the main switchboard, ship transformers and the bow thruster motors to the Kamewa Ulstein bow thrusters. 
The dry bulk powderized cargo system is Rolls-Royce delivery, and the hydraulic deck machinery is of Rauma Brattvaag make with anchors and chains from Sotra Marine Produkter. Dreggen Crane has supplied a service crane to the vessel, and the windows are of Bohamet make with Wynn wipers. Watertight sliding doors are delivered by IMS. The life-saving equipment includes life-boats and rescue boat with davits from Umoe Schat-Harding and Viking liferafts. 
The electronic navigation and communication equipment incorporates Transas deliveries such as Skipper echo sounder, Consilium Selesmar radar, C. Plath magnetic compass, Sperry Marine log, Raytheon gyro compass and auto pilot, Ecdis, Sailor radio station, Vaisala wind indicator and Consilium Marine VDR. UHF-portable radion is of Icom make and the intercom system is of Zenitel make.
